I was raised in a very international environment. Attended schools in Russia and USA. Been studying sociology and anthropology in Bard College, NY, USA. Currently I am living in Australia's sunshine state-Queensland.
I would like to think of myself as bilingual, since my first language was Russian but English followed pretty much right away. This makes my brain work in two modes-Russian and English-, which, in turn, helps me teach English learners in a comprehensive and fun way. I can understand students’ 'logic' without necessarily speaking their language. I have spent 4 years teaching English to adults in St.Petersburg, Russia. My teaching methods are simple and come down to two principles : total immersion into the language and FUN. Lots of fun. I want my students to fall in love with the language of Shakespeare!
Also speech and debate tournaments were a huge part of my life while I studied in high school and university in the States. My debate team and I travelled all around the States and Europe competing with other debate teams from all over the world. This experience does make me a great conversationalist who can make a student talk even if he/she is very shy.
I do not have any teaching certificates, but I did have to take multiple exams to get accepted into college in the States ( SAT, SAT Subject tests, Advance Placement test, TOEFL). I tend to think that first hand experience in teaching proves to be more useful than teaching certificates, which, doubtlessly, are nice to have.
I feel passionate about teaching foreign languages online, getting to know new people, explore their culture, and share my, very cosmopolitan, yet distinct way of life.
